Original posting at Myspace...click HERE

Current mood:  focused
Category: Web, HTML, Tech
Because this is a computer help blog, I have installed a link to it
in my "General" section of my profile that will take you directly to this blog, within a separate window for your convenience.
Spread the word.
Lately I have been getting several requests on computer help due to the ever
increasing problems that either arise from myspace applications or from the terrible explosion of more spyware/adware that are grasping onto my friends
computers thru malicious websites or free programs such as screensavers, games, or even Utilities available through websites designed to help.
The problem today, is that a lot of "free" stuff ALSO gives you these trojans attached for free as well.

The worst offender sites are those that have celebrity nudes and or porn sites.

Also. if you use Limewire people....PLEASE make sure you have your anti-virus program RUNNING.
Look for its little icon in the lower right of your taskbar.

If you have a firewall running in Limewire, you DO have to allow that firewall to accept the connection or you will NOT connect!
You are opening what is called a "port" that allows the download of those files you wish to download.

I also want to point out, that when you go to download a file. LOOK at its file size, this is crucially important because most trojans or malicious files end with KB (kilobytes).
Only text can be that small. Programs or songs or videos are MB (megabytes).

Common sizes for mp3's are 4-8 mb's, videos are 40-70 mbs unless they are in flash format which averages 7-15 mb's

Programs vary and the bigger files vary greatly but to take a average look, a big program would be from 50-400 mb's

I have been repairing computers for the last 12 years (started in 1996) and have tried literally hundreds of Utilities for different tasks and self help-repair programs are my biggest interest.
I have compiled a small list of my favorite programs that I use religiously
to repair my clients computers.
The following list is all "freeware" and dont expire and all work well and are free of any malicious trojans/adware/spyware.

I do this as a favor to the general public and to my friends because it is EXPENSIVE to have a pro do it for you.

All I ask in return, is that you do NOT contact me about how to actually USE the Super Nintendo Emulator "Snes9xw", because it is pretty intuitive, its an easy program, comes with easy to understand help files, and has dozens of websites that give the info you need to do anything on it.

A nice suggestion to all who download the following programs, is that when you actually get them downloaded, burn a backup copy of those downloaded programs before you install them so you KNOW you have the ENTIRE program as opposed to only the "program file" folder of it.

Enjoy:

(note: it is a good practice to only use this for "data" files such as pictures, mp3's, documents etc...and not programs because you MAY accidentally close out a running component of Windows that you NEED running at that very moment and you can "crash" or freeze the computer if you close a "program" file)
