Pondering My Own Faith

Current mood:  accomplished
Category: Religion and Philosophy

On pondering my own view on faith recently. I came across a debate in my local newpapers forum about same sex marriage.
Well you know how this debate usually goes:
The conservative Christians vs the Agnostics, Atheists and those like me who didnt know exactly where we actually sit.
I started reading about 40 bible verses a day in the posts that the resident anal retentive bible thumper who didnt have "a voice of his own) had posted.
I was forced as a child to go to Sunday School until my 7th grade year and so I knew quite a bit already of my own Christian Baptist religion, and knew the overall things that we as Christians are expected to do.
As a what'iffer type of person, I have always looked at alternative ideas about who our creator is.
I dont attend church for this reason, for the reason that there are literally thousands of hypocritical Christians who form cliques and turn their backs on the unbelievers who are seeking answers.
I to this day believe 100% in a creator of some sort, but it doesnt necessarily mean the God portrayed in our King James bible. I just know we were created...period.
I was able to get some people to send me some references of the lost books of the bible to answer some of my questions, but I still have'nt read them as of yet.

I actually looked into Mormonism after a couple of nice Mormon guys tried to sell me their religious views and came across a most peculiar thing.
One was that Joseph Smith whom was a founder of this religion claimed to have come across some "golden scrolls" which is essentially as he puts it, a supplement to the 10 commandments, although later, and angel came forth and took the golden scrolls from him and went flying away again. Then theres the "special underwear" you get to earn by being promoted higher and higher through the church hierarchy.
see the video at the bottom of this blog.
Today i took a test, it was a myspace test that was in pretty good detail about belief system and it turned out, that it shows I was a hedonist!!!!   I said to myself  "umm excussssse me!!, I am NOT a hedonist that believes in ANY kind of sex for the sake of pleasure!!". (see my profile for that test and results, its in my "heroes" section.
OK, now you just KNOW I had to find out what a Hedonist is defined as cause I'm no "freak", so I went searching.
It turns out the the term "hedonist" is used in different ways as according to WHAT you are saying it is in relation TO.
If you are a SEXUAL hedonist, then indeed you are a "freak"

Well,  actually what I am, is a hedonist in the definition of this paste:

" However, hedonism is not necessarily related to egoism. The Utilitarianism of John Stuart Mill is sometimes classified as a type of hedonism, as it judges the morality of actions by their consequent contributions to the greater good and happiness of all. Note that this is altruistic hedonism. Whereas some hedonistic doctrines propose doing whatever makes an individual happiest (over the long run), Mill promotes actions which make everyone happy. Compare individualism and collectivism."

Well, I was sitting there with my mouth hanging wide open, in total disbelief, that this definition fit me EXACTLY.
I was accused lately  of being a "socialist" because of my views
that I believe in the recovery and return of child health care as proposed by Hilary Clinton.
Actually its not socialist at all, its Altruism.
I really didnt feel that i fit a system that becomes communistic and so I thought the guy that called me this was a wacko extremist.
My whole life has been centered around always wanting to make people happy, and if you read my profile, I'm sure you'll agree.
I not only am on this social networking site to spread the joys of Eurodance music to Americans, but I also have done a great job in being a genuine friend to my Myspace friends.
My friend Dina, was really taken aback when I gave her son a computer for his birthday after only knowing her for 4 months, I also gave her several dvds with Eurodance videos for free to spread the joy of the music and in hopes that SHE would spread it out.
Well it worked, its working like a pyramid letter. All her sons friends are keying in to it and using some of those songs as ringtones, etc...
Dina is an existentialist (believes in doing everything herself as a survival) and so was very confused and suspicious of WHY I would give her such things for free and not ask anything in return.
My only answer was: "because I'm just THAT kind of a person".
That was the best i could do.
NOW I KNOW why, yes , this is a revelation to me esp since I'm always accusing my daughter of trying to "save the world"
and now I also see WHERE she got it from...lol
Shes just MORE of a hedonist than I.
Funny how long it takes somebody to actually discover themselves, but now I feel much better and enlightened.
