| Category: Life In my last post on the subject of women's self defense, I stressed the importance of grappling/ground defense through use of Gracie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I will touch more upon that in a moment, but the main focus of this blog is the prevention of being taken down to the ground in the first place. Meaning, I will focus on strikes that work well for women of any size/strength. Lets start with very BASIC self-defense techniques: First. Situational awareness http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KI5G2Zqi7DY Creating a distraction http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nkYGke-zTA Maintaining control http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSLgTOo03Fc Muay Thai utilization of elbows can be devastating to your opponent. These can be very efficient weapons, capable of causing serious injury with minimal force. Very useful for close-quarters combat, both in-stand-up point-fighting and from grappling--applying elbows down on your opponent or up and across if you are on your back. Now learn the VERY IMPORTANT Elbow Strike http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xnbNi6JJqI Here is an even more proper application of elbows while guarding from attack http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2E8Lrm1J3c8 Now learn the Groin Kick http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xshmv7vwcdI Learn the Palm Strike http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVX03_Le5ew Learn the Hammer Fist http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMSPCH4jyFo Break free of a two-handed choke http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD8Sex72UVw Break choke against wall and Eye Gauge http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QO2FEdtRi44 Break Sleeper Hold http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypfiC2mFWgc Using a book as a weapon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMkor5t7CDw Using your keys as a weapon (works just as well with any sharp object) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gUFCDK4XPQ Now we will work into some basic leverage and joint manipulation, as well as get into grappling. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5KLiDMzuTU Okay, next let us go into the art of GRAPPLING itself: This is Aikido mixed with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7GfQdB9a8Y Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from the Guard. Again, the Guard is when you are on your back and you are able to wrap your legs around an opponent's hips, interlocking your ankles at their back, thereby trapping them into your leverage--being able to pull them back and forth at will. The following is a Kimura choke followed by an Armbar from Guard http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1h0GkOcnthE The next four vids are from a Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu instructor who melds both styles. We will focus on his grappling. Defenses and counters from Guard http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsXBeeo4cNQ Defense punches and Take Downs into a dominant Mounted position http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7G2eVDl-7c Applying the Armbar and Triangle Choke from dominant Mounted position http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldBBkhpoWoc Here are the Muay Thai STRIKES: Defense from Jabs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73qaiFIwND0 This next gentleman is a traditional Muay Thai expert Elbow attacks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYYR53qz3EY Blocking and swing punch (hook) defense http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APP9JOFB2-k Defense against straight punches (jabs) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8_SLZOTAH8 Elbow defense-attack (thai vs thai) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSxMDo-53QE Muay Thai clinch evasion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_AxdrioWCQ Muay Thai clinch for elbow and knee attacks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdYA0bybrZ8 The last portion of this compilation is Krav Maga, an Israeli Counter-Terrorism and survival martial art. It is a very powerful, practical, and explosive style. I would like to thank my dear friend Denaveria for explaining to me the finer points of the following basic moves. She is unbelievably skilled and can defend against and overwhelm an attacker (and friends) many times her size. This instructor is a KRAV MAGA practitioner Elbows and Knees http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1m0bkr5oepU Carjacking Defense http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fe0XvVFCp20 Edge Weapon Defense/Disarm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yE-V9lkONeI Knife Thrust Defense/Disarm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnBa-sdNIEo Defend against a from-behind choke against car or wall http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzkhvydILYY Breaking front choke with elbows http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w838NUFOwG0 Hair grab defense http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0r_fkq5hhds Defense against Bear Hug from the front http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJ8P3XgcaSg Defense against a Bear Hug from behind http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIwOOT2D4cs Defense against being picked up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHgq464ly2o It is possible for even the most frail-bodied individuals to attain this level of discipline, confidence, and skill. Krav Maga military master: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjmBPFPTq-g I hope you found this tutorial to be educational. Remember, these are simply introductory lessons. Take it upon yourself to educate yourself further and learn more from as many reliable sources as possible and practice every chance you get. Above all remember: If fleeing is not an option, remember to ACT. Do not hesitate. Your life, the well-being of your loved ones, and possible future victims depend on you. NEVER SURRENDER! ~ Courtesy of the Nereverine |
