Category: Life
In my last post on the subject of women's self defense, I stressed the importance of grappling/ground defense through use of Gracie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I will touch more upon that in a moment, but the main focus of this blog is the prevention of being taken down to the ground in the first place. Meaning, I will focus on strikes that work well for women of any size/strength.

Lets start with very BASIC self-defense techniques:

First. Situational awareness

Creating a distraction

Maintaining control

Muay Thai utilization of elbows can be devastating to your opponent. These can be very efficient weapons, capable of causing serious injury with minimal force. Very useful for close-quarters combat, both in-stand-up point-fighting and from grappling--applying elbows down on your opponent or up and across if you are on your back.

Now learn the VERY IMPORTANT Elbow Strike

Now we will work into some basic leverage and joint manipulation, as well as get into grappling.

Okay, next let us go into the art of GRAPPLING itself:

This is Aikido mixed with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from the Guard. Again, the Guard is when you are on your back and you are able to wrap your legs around an opponent's hips, interlocking your ankles at their back, thereby trapping them into your leverage--being able to pull them back and forth at will.

The following is a Kimura choke followed by an Armbar from Guard

The next four vids are from a Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu instructor who melds both styles. We will focus on his grappling.

The last portion of this compilation is Krav Maga, an Israeli Counter-Terrorism and survival martial art. It is a very powerful, practical, and explosive style. I would like to thank my dear friend Denaveria for explaining to me the finer points of the following basic moves. She is unbelievably skilled and can defend against and overwhelm an attacker (and friends) many times her size.

I hope you found this tutorial to be educational. Remember, these are simply introductory lessons. Take it upon yourself to educate yourself further and learn more from as many reliable sources as possible and practice every chance you get.

Above all remember: If fleeing is not an option, remember to ACT. Do not hesitate. Your life, the well-being of your loved ones, and possible future victims depend on you.

NEVER SURRENDER!
