Before talking about Sodom and Gomorrah, please know that in these videoblogs I do not provide scriptural references.  I post my work on YouTube, Facebook and MySpace, but it is only on MySpace where, along with the videoblog, I supply the text, including scriptural references.

My last videoblog was about Christian homophobia, wherein I presented 3 revelations that I know, from past experience, that many do not believe are true.  Because those revelations are critical, I would like to take this opportunity to repeat them and tell you their scriptural references.  Firstly, sin is relative (Romans 14:14).  Secondly, adult, consensual fornication is not a sin upon others but, if anything, a sin upon one’s own temple or being (First Corinthians 6:18).  And lastly, it is not the act itself that determines “sin,” but rather our hearts and motivations in the matter (Matthew 15:17-20).

Now, about Sodom and Gomorrah.  A city is as holy or unholy as the people in it.  The story of Sodom and Gomorrah is about twin cities lost in sin or selfishness, but among its citizens is one family not lost in selfishness—Lot’s family, including Lot’s wife, sons, daughters and sons-in-law.  The sins of Sodom and Gomorrah are so “off the charts” that God sends 2 angels in the image of men to assess the corruption.  When these angels arrive they go to stay with Lot and his family, and the men of the city come to Lot’s home wanting to meet these 2 new visitors so that they can “know” them or have sex with them.  Corporate Christianity widely teaches that the story of Sodom and Gomorrah is about homosexuality.  That is incorrect.

Scripture is not firstly a literal message, but a spiritual one (Romans 7:6; Second Corinthians 3:6).  The two new visitors to Sodom were not men of human flesh, but angels, and the reason why the men of Sodom desired these visitors was for their “strange flesh” (Jude 7), referring to their uncorrupted nature.  The desire of the men of Sodom was not homosexuality, but to corrupt the uncorrupted Spirit of God.  If the sin of Sodom was homosexuality, then why hadn’t the men of Sodom ever forced sex upon Lot or his sons or sons-in-law?  Because they were not uncorrupted like the two visitors of “strange flesh.”

The crime of the Sodomites is their desire to propagate selfishness, to corrupt the uncorrupted.  The prophet Ezekiel is told by God that the sins of Sodom and Gomorrah are pride, wealth, inhospitality, inhumanity, greed and laziness.  God makes no mention of homosexuality (Ezekiel 16:49-50).

There are so many, loving, wonderful gays.  History is filled with intelligent, talented and brave homosexuals, including Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Walt Whitman, Susan B. Anthony, Tchaikovsky, Oscar Wilde, Gertrude Stein, Cole Porter, Tennessee Williams, Leonard Bernstein, Janis Joplin, Harvey Milk and one of the heroes of Flight 93 on September 11th, Mark Bingham.

I hope for a day when one’s sexuality will be a non-issue and the bullying and persecuting and hating will stop.

You invite me to throw away the entire Bible to embrace the rigidly literal or “letter of the law” interpretation of that verse along with the literal judgment that goes with it.  For me or any mind to do that is fundamentally dishonest and a complete denial of even the notion of “God’s Spirit” or His “Spirit of the law.”  You deny the most critical revelation that the Bible’s message is not firstly a literal message, but a spiritual one (Romans 7:6; Second Corinthians 3:6).  You deny the heart of Christ’s spiritual message, where Jesus Christ Himself reduces the entirety of scripture (‘all the law and the prophets’) to 2 things: to love the Spirit of Selfless Love (‘God’) and to apply it (to love thy neighbor as thyself).  Christ is telling us to judge not by the Old Testament “dead letter” (‘letter of the law’; literalism) but to judge by the ‘living Spirit’ (‘Spirit of the law’).

Are you a Jew?  Because by your method of interpretation only literal Jews (ancestral Jews) that follow every one of Moses’ laws to the letter shall have Heaven and everyone else goes to Hell.  The reason the Jewish priest hated Jesus and sought to have Him captured, which led to His death was because Jesus was teaching that literal Jews were not the “Chosen Ones” but rather only spiritual Jews or those that do not embrace the “dead letter” but the “living spirit” (referring to those that personify The Way, Truth and Life of Selfless Love).

The Spirit of the law forgives, because the Spirit of the law is effected by sowing and reaping Spirit, which is about forgiving others their “sins” as you would want your sins forgiven.  You deny that Christ’s ministry is about reconciliation, about overcoming the world (the estate of literalism and Hellbound-judgments) with the Spirit (the estate of Selfless Love where no soul would usurp the Throne of God to judge another to Hell).  You deny “as you sow, so shall you reap” and “as you judge, so shall you be judged” and you go right ahead and judge others for their “sins” to Hell by way of the letter of the law.  And so too shall your sins be judged by the letter of the law in the end, and the only outcome is Hell, because the dead letter of the law offers no grace, no mercy, only Hell.

You deny that even a child that curses its parents is an abomination that shall be “put to death,” no different that adulterers or homosexuals.  That is a wide arc of sin to cover, yet I do not see you railing against children that curse their parents or adulterers.  Scripture tells us that if your entire soul is pure in Spirit but has one tiny measure of anti-Spirit (or Selfishness or ‘Satan’) the whole of your soul is corrupted, or did you miss that part in the Bible?

Erik, you choose to not only embrace the literal word, but you do it selectively, denying other literal revelations that destroy your argument, namely that sin is relative and that consensual fornication is a sin not upon others but, if anything, a sin upon one’s own temple.

The “anti-Christ administration” you fear is precisely what you propagate.  You are part of the problem, not the solution by your commitment to Selfishness over Selfless Love.
